Social Media: What Value Are You Getting?

Be forewarned I’m about to go on a little rant. I am over the Instagram to stardom stage we find ourselves in. A year ago, when I was blogging for Hint of Lavender I was wasting so much energy trying to “be a blogger.” I truly did not understand what I was getting myself into. I started to follow a huge amount of women that I deemed successful bloggers, only to find that I was not getting the value from them that I had hoped.

A few weeks ago, I was chatting with my girlfriends and this topic came up. We talked about how we don’t want to waste so much time on Instagram because we were subconsciously comparing yourself and our lives with what was appearing on our feed. Why do we do that to ourselves?

Ok. I’m taking a big breath because here is where the rant starts. If you find yourself feeling down about yourself, feeling unworthy, feeling upset after scrolling through your Instagram feed you need to change your feed! Yes, I needed an exclamation point there. I’m about to use one again. Stop following women that make you feel like shit!

I recently did an audit of my Instagram account. I looked at who I was following and I asked myself two questions: 1. Why am I following them? 2. What value are they bringing me? The answer to these questions should be: This person makes me laugh, this person makes me feel good about myself, this person has uplifting conversations. If you are following a person that makes you question yourself, question your worth, question your life; unfollow them immediately.

I’m saying this because the moment that I dropped all those people who made me question myself and my life I found myself happier, more confident, and content. Life is too short to waste on Instagram people who don’t lift us up.

With all that emotion out of me, I now must say this, think about the value you are providing to your followers. Are you lifting them up? Are you posting content that is motivating, positive, and encouraging? You are a kickass lady who has a lot to offer in life and on Instagram. Make sure that what you are bringing to the table is that kickass value that is a part of you.

If I’ve learned anything from blogging; it’s that if there is no value, there is no point. If you’re not sure if your content is bringing your followers value, contact me. I can easily do an audit of your page. I have worked with several clients to determine content value and strategy. I’d love to help you get some kickass content out to your followers.
